What makes WeChat useful?

I attended an event of WeChat and FHM last week and admittedly I a not a user of WeChat.  During the event I have to update my own app which was about 7 months old.  Thanks to the LTE connection at Craft Pub and Grill, I was able to update in no time.  The first reaction I have when I saw WeChat was, "Why am I not using this chat software?"

I did take a quick look at WeChat months before and honestly I did not find any additional features very interesting, thus, I have to settle for other similar apps.  When I saw the new version however, I was stunned and I admired it instantly.  What I specially like was the "Shake", "QR Code", and "Friend Radar" options to add a friend to your list.

Seems like everyone is enjoying WeChat and the food as well

The Voice Chat feature and Group Chat was also very useful.  I told myself, WeChat could greatly help us during events specially through the "Walkie Talkie" functionality.  The features was greatly boosted from the last one and this made WeChat a lot more useful.

WeChat envisions and innovates new ways for people to connect, communicate and share. A mobile social communication app designed for smartphone users, WeChat is the world's fastest growing social app with hundreds of millions of users internationally. WeChat empowers users in fun and dynamic ways, by bringing together messaging, social communication and games in one seamless, interactive experience, with comprehensive privacy and security settings that can be tailored as needed.

WeChat is available free for download on Android, BlackBerry, iOS, Symbian and Windows operating system.

So why Filipinos would love WeChat?

Nurturing connections—that is what being a Filipino is about. From warm hugs to friendly smiles, the genuine hospitality inherent in the Filipino spirit is indisputably unrivaled. The need to connect is deeply wired into our roots and that is something we all take pride in.

This is why fastest growing social messaging app WeChat embodies and complements our highly social nature. Given that smart phones are now deeply entrenched into our everyday lives, WeChat, with a wide range of social features including Live Chat, Video Call, Moments, Voice Chat, Group Chat, Shake, Look Around, Friend Radar, and Sticker Shop, integrates ease and convenience into the whole mobile experience making it more enjoyable and worthwhile. But more than an enhanced way of interacting with our peers, WeChat, through partnerships with brands that have become part of the Filipino lifestyle, is now a gateway to everything that Filipinos love and enjoy.

Mobile Shopping Made Fun

With online shopping brands like ZaloraPH and Lazada now having their own official WeChat accounts, WeChat offers users exclusive access to updates, sales, and promos—even discounts on best-selling items. What is arguably the next face of mobile shopping, WeChat offers its users access to Zalora’s over 500 top international and local brands of more than 15,000 apparel, shoes, accessories and beauty products, and Lazada’s wide array of mobiles, tablets, consumer electronic and household goods including toys, fashion and sport equipment.

Your Own Mobile Fan Page

The Official Accounts feature is maximized to its full potential with WeChat now having accounts for personalities that every member of the household can relate to. Everyone from YouTube sensation Mikey Bustos, local comedian Vice Ganda, and tv host Phoemela Barranda, to WeChat brand ambassadors Iya Villania, Drew Arellano, and Laureen Uy have their own official WeChat accounts, connecting users further into the who’s who of Philippine entertainment.

In addition, with FHM now having its Official Account on WeChat, users are able to receive updates and photos of their favorite FHM girls. This latest partnership gives them a one-click way to interact with the country’s leading authority on women, men’s fashion, sports, technology, and entertainment.

Creating relationships between users and said brands makes WeChat the only social messaging app that considers it their mission to deepen the relationships of its users to the rest of the local scene. This makes WeChat the only mobile platform that seamlessly rides to the beat of Filipino lifestyles.

My take on WeChat

If you are on WeChat just add me up by my chat ID "shenbrood."

I think more and more people would love using this app.  By the way, this same application is also available on your PC and you can seemlesly transfer files from your PC to your mobile device.

The company is also trying to utilize this social platform for online cashless payment system and it had been working well in countries like HongKong and China.  As for the Philippines, Mr. Steve Zheng, Senior Business Development Manager for International Business Group said that this feature would eventually be rolled out in the Philippines.  I think as soon as they get enough partner merchants, you will son see cashless payments using WeChat.
