Learning experience from joining Facebook contests

I am not a contest addict for I only join contests in Facebook to have fun and well at times get relaxation. Yesterday, however the supposed to be fun experience was ruined because the one who made the contest was not well aware of how to handle people. This is about my experience on the contest posted by Little Running Teacher which gives you a free massage and experience at Blue Water Day Spa. It was also the worst experience I had with a contest.

The service of Blue Water Day Spa was excellent and the movie The Proposal was really great.  This is not about them.

The contest asks me to write a blog article about her contest. Well, I would be blunt that I am referring to Cheryl of Little Running Teacher. I made the blog not because I want to win alone but because I was impressed by what she do and by her vision.

Later that day, it was announced that I am one of the winners. Of course I am happy and thanked her for choosing me. She replied and even told me that she liked the blog I made. I asked Mei to come with me last, Wednesday, April 27 to Blue Water Day Spa and spend some time together.

Out from work I met Mei at Trinoma then we get a taxi to get us "in front" of Greenhills Shopping Center which is the place mentioned in the post. The post instructed us to get there since Blue Water Day Spa was supposed to be there. We scouted it and there was no Blue Water Day Spa in front of Greenhills Shopping Center. So, I decided to use the GPS on my phone and we located a Blue Water Day Spa near Atlanta Center.

We walked from Greenhills Shopping Center to Atlanta Center which is probably about a kilometer or more. We went to the reception and they told us it was closed. Upon further clarification we learned that the actual Blue Water Day Spa which we are supposed to be is in fact "along Ortigas Ave." and near Greenhills Shopping Center "not infront" as instructed or as we were told. It was not even "very near" since it was about 500 meters away.

We get a taxi and then finally arrive at the venue. Upon arriving at the venue, no one greeted us. We went to the information desk and present ourselves. The Blue Water Day Spa information desk was very polite and they asked us to sign our e-mail and phone number.

THIS IS NOT IN FRONT OF GREENHILLS SHOPPING CENTER
After that we wait at the lobby as we wait for what is to come. No one talked to us even to another winner. I noticed that there was a group laughing, taking photos of one another and chatting. That led me to view Cheryl's profile and to y surprise it was her. She did not even say a word not apologize for the long and tiring search we made. The thing is, we are not the only one who suffered from "wrong directions."

We went in to the spa and watch a movie. It was a movie playing before the actual movie we are supposed to watch. We have our sit... Cheryl is not even approaching us nor talking to us. Then the movie, "The Proposal" started playing. It was a very beautiful movie actually and we did enjoyed it.

They also gave us a back massage for about 15-minutes. though it is a bit too short, it relaxes me a bit and hopefully since i need it after all the stress. The movie ended and FINALLY our host spoke. She thanked everyone specially her sponsors and ask us to create a blog post and share her the link.

Perhaps, this is the reason why I am writing this to share the experience I had with this contest and to tell her that I am really disappointed at how she handled us. She seem to not even know us except for her friends and acquaintances.

A friendly advice, next time you host a contest or an event show courtesy and caring to everyone. If we join a contest it does not mean we cannot afford to get a spa or buy the prize. We deserve courtesy and respect.

Thanks for the movie and the experience at Blue Water Day Spa.

  4. Hi Sir David. Thanks for the tip, I do appreciate it. This was my first ever event and I honestly did not know I was hosting it, hence, I was not prepared at all.. mentally. I always feel shy to approach new people... something I've been working on for the past couple of years. I have to once again send out my sincerest apologies. I hope I explain myself well through this blog and I do hope to still see you and your wife in future events. :) http://www.littlerunningteacher.com/my-fun-but-not-so-successful-first-event/

  5. Hi Cheryl. I think what contributed to our predicament was first and
forenost the wrong direction and trouble to get to the venue. It is also
hard to approach you since I felt awkward to do it myself.

I was impressed by your blog post. It shows maturity and courage to admit
shortcomings. Nobody is perfect including me. I post this blog to give an
honest comment and to not be plastic.

Nothing personal. Take care always and if there is something I coukd do to
help just tell me. Thanks for your response.

  6. Hey Dave,

Relax ka na hehehe.... I've read both of your blog and on your separate stories, I feel you both. Akala ko naman alam mo na yung place, di moko tinanong nung nagkita tayo para sa location. Isipin mo na lang na nag-enjoy pa rin kayo ni Mei sa movie and massage. I've read Cheryl's blog and I can see naman she's sincere sa little "mistake" na nangyari. Good thing, you did not take that incident as personal. The fact she made the effort to place her comment/apology here is a good sign. Alright? Peace! :D

  7. I am good with it. On that day it does appear bigger and well irritating if
you imagine how we feel. It is natural. But it is really a learning
    experience.

  8. Sharing with your sentiments. Once I attended a sort of get together hosted by a blogger with a cosmetic company as sponsor. When I get there I really knew nobody and I was "tanga" for several minutes because the host is only talking with the people whom she knew. My fault, I am not "sosyal" and I think the party was meant for people like that. Huh, enough of just standing there, I escaped and had late lunch. Afterwhich the blogger I think was mad at me thinking I stood her up because she has quota number of people to bring or invite for that event.

There are good and bad experiences we encounter everyday, enough to teach us lessons.

  9. Actually, I myself got lost. haha I was told it was in front of greenhills. Turns out it was beside, but I did not realize I posted that on my wall on facebook too. Sorry if you felt awkward to approach me.. parepareho lang pala tayo nahiya. hehe :) But if you noticed, I was standing up almost the entire time in the lobby. :) It was because I was finding the nerve to approach people. hehe :p

  11. I highly agree :) If you will be hosting an event then be prepared for it or be civil to take responsibility like what Cheryl did.
