Balik Sinta transforms PUPians first day into an unforgettable celebration of campus life, student unity, and the values that define every Iskolar ng Bayan.
There is something magical about the first days. Moments of unfamiliar hallways, the pavement of the catwalk, the nervous smiles exchanged with strangers who may eventually become lifelong friends, are the mark of the beginning of a journey. For every incoming Iskolar ng Bayan at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), you are invited to become part of a legacy. This year, that invitation comes in the form of Balik Sinta, a tradition that welcomes students to the culture and traditions of the university.
Walking into Balik Sinta feels like stepping into a place where nostalgia meets possibility. Freshmen are immersed in an atmosphere filled with creativity, excitement, and the warmth of a community eager to embrace them and it serves as a reminder that college is about discovering who they are alongside thousands of fellow dreamers.
While Balik Sinta is more than colorful decorations and welcoming smiles. It reflects the very heart of PUP. As the university's flagship welcoming initiative, organized by the Sentral na Konseho ng Mag-aaral (SKM), the event introduces freshmen to the values that generations of PUPians have carried with pride: service, critical thinking, solidarity, and social responsibility. It reminds newcomers that being an Iskolar ng Bayan means becoming part of a community that continuously strives for meaningful change.
This event serves as a platform and has a deep purpose. While students laugh and participate in games, they are also introduced to pressing issues that directly affect their education and future. Campaigns advocating for a higher university budget, opposition to the NPU Bill, and the call for “Marcos Singilin, Duterte Panagutin” have become part of the conversations.
And what makes this year's Balik Sinta even more meaningful is its long-awaited return after a one-year hiatus. Behind the scenes are student leaders who poured countless hours into planning every detail, ensuring that the revival of Balik Sinta would be worth the wait. Their dedication reflects the same passion that has kept PUP's student spirit alive through the years.
One of the event heads, Mx. Christian Lloyd Delante, shared how they once stood among the freshmen as an ordinary committee member during the very first Balik Sinta, only to return years later as the overall head. “My ultimate expectation is not just for a successful execution, but to ensure that our freshies walk away with the absolute best, most defining first-day experience of their college lives,” stated by Mx. Delante on the expectations of the event.
As freshmen take their first steps, they also begin writing stories that will define their college years. The celebration is for all; it is a collective homecoming for all of the students, as sophomores, juniors, and seniors are reminded of their own beginnings.
College life is often described as a roller coaster, and Balik Sinta becomes the opening chapter of some of their stories but before all those experiences unfold, every Iskolar deserves a day that reminds them why they chose this path in the first place.
